What Colleges and Universities SuperScore the SAT?4 min read

Today we list out the popular universities that SuperScore!

For those unfamiliar with SuperScoring, this is the term given when colleges take the highest SAT section scores across multiple sittings and combine them into a single composite score. Not all universities SuperScore, and indeed most do not, but we went ahead and compiled a list of the most popular schools that do, pulling from the official College Board publication on the matter.

Disclaimer: We are providing this information using the most up-to-date material out there, but given the plasticity of college admissions and the alacrity with which schools change their policies given such matters, we recommend students and parents check directly with a school, either over the phone or through an official school website, to ensure that the information presented is accurate. Further, we selected only the most popular schools and universities, so an exclusion from our chart does not necessarily mean that school does not SuperScore.

Interestingly, College Board divided SuperScoring into two distinct types– Version 1 and Version 2. College Board explains Version 1 as:

[University X] has indicated that it considers your highest section scores across all SAT test dates that you submit.

Reading between the lines, these universities are those that SuperScore but may frown upon students who take the SAT an inordinate number of times.

Version 2 on the other hand reads:

[University X] has indicated that it considers your highest section scores across all SAT test dates that you submit. Only your highest section scores will be considered as part of the final admissions decision. Each time you submit scores, will update your record with any new high scores.

In essence, these universities are those that SuperScore and will not penalize you for taking the SAT numerous times.

We’ve divided the two tables below according to these two versions, but keep in mind that both tables show universities that SuperScore– the only difference is how many times you can take the exam and still be in the clear.

  1. how many times of the sat tests take considered as inordinate number of times????
especially for those whom can have the choice taking the old and new versions.

    1. Amy,

It really depends on the schools you are applying to, as some schools really do not care how many times you take the exam and other schools really do. If you are planning on applying to the most prestigious schools, like the Ivy League schools, then you should not take either version of the exam more than twice. If you are ever in doubt about rules, recommendations, and general guidelines when it comes to applying to the most competitive schools in the country you should: 1) Check with the school directly, and/or 2) Refer to Harvard’s Frequently Asked Questions list. Generally, as Harvard goes so too do the other colleges. If you follow the link, you’ll see Harvard finds diminishing value in SAT scores after you have taken the exam more than twice.

      Hope this helps!
