If you missed the SAT registration deadline for your preferred test date, it’s not the end of the world. Here are the options you can take.
Late registration is simple: if you missed the regular registration deadline, you may still sign up for your preferred test date as normal as long as you:
- sign up before the late registration deadline
- pay an additional late registration fee of $28.00.
That’s all there is to it! See the end of this post for late registration deadlines.
You may request waitlist status if:
- you missed the last registration deadline, or
- if your paper registration form was returned to you unprocessed and you didn’t have enough time to submit it.
Fee: $49 (only if you are admitted on test day)
Waitlist requests are made online, through your CollegeBoard account. You may request waitlist status online for up to 5 days before test day. You have to register for the waitlist ahead of time, and you can’t just show up on test day without having previously registered for the waitlist.
On test day, the waitlist functions on a first-come, first-serve basis. Waitlisted students are seated after regular students are seated, and are admitted based on the number of empty seats/available tests/available staff at that center on that day.
The waitlist does not guarantee that you will be admitted to test on test day. If you do not get admitted, your waitlist fee is refunded and you will not be transferred to another waitlist.
Keep in mind that if time permits, you can always choose a later test date! The SAT runs year-round, and you may have many more options.
