As you go through life, you expect people to be responsible and to fulfill their duties just as you do. The harsh reality is that not everybody will meet these expectations – and some of these people may be your high school counselors. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not discrediting all counselors, as most of them are pretty good. But every now and then, they make mistakes too.
As part of your college application, your high school transcript will be sent out to all the universities you are applying to. At most high schools, you will place an order through your counselor and he or she will send the transcript out…….However, every once and a while, an order might be overlooked and the transcript will never make it to your dream school. (And I can attest to this, because it happened to me when I was applying to college!)
The moral of the story? Follow up on everything! Follow up with your counselor, and follow up with the university to make sure all your supplemental materials make it. There is nothing worse than being passed up from Dream University because your application wasn’t complete.
Many universities give you a student ID and password to log in and check up on the status of all your application materials, but if a school is still living in the dark ages and hasn’t made the switch to a web app tracker, call them. Don’t be shy and don’t worry about pestering the admissions office. That’s what they are there for!
