# SAT Math Practice: Absolute Values

Today at College Compass we’ll run through an SAT practice problem involving absolute values:

What value of x satisfies the equation  $|2x-7|+3=0$.

So let’s go ahead and solve this problem:

$|2x-7|=-3$

We could go ahead and continue, but WAIT A MINUTE! If you remember your definition of absolute values, you know that an absolute value cannot be negative! This equation doesn’t make sense at all, so that means there is no value of x for which the equation is satisfied.

This is one of the very, very rare cases when “there is no solution to this equation” would be your answer!
